Fayetteville Policies and Procedures 312.1
Implementation of State of Arkansas 1,500 Hour Rule for Extra Help Employees - Limitation of 1,250 Hours for Fayetteville Campus
Arkansas Code Annotated §6-63-314 imposes the following restriction:
Extra help restrictions
No employee of an institution of higher education who is employed as extra help may
be employed for a period of time to exceed fifteen hundred (1,500) hours per year.
For purposes of implementation and enforcement, the Fayetteville campus of the University of Arkansas will track hours worked in a fiscal year by extra help employees paid through the Fayetteville Fund. Furthermore, in order to help ensure compliance with this law, the Fayetteville campus will restrict the number of hours extra help employees may work to 1,250 per fiscal year. The department will be notified of the number of hours worked before the 1,250 hour limit is reached, and the employee will be issued a letter of termination upon reaching the 1,250 hour limit. In very limited circumstances, in the best interest of the university, the chancellor, or his or her designee, may approve exceptions to the 1,250 hour limit, not to exceed 1,500 hours.
