Request for Graduate Faculty Status

Graduate Faculty Application

Appointment application will be used by the following individuals:

  • Contingent (unpaid, affiliate, non-UAF) faculty requesting graduate faculty status
  • UAF faculty who are requesting graduate faculty status
  • UAF staff who are requesting to teach graduate-level classes
  • Qualified faculty based on experience (for applicants who do not have a terminal degree in their field)

Non-UAF Contingent (unpaid) Faculty Members

Non-UA faculty members seeking graduate faculty status at the university are appointed through Workday as contingent (formerly adjunct) faculty.

The process for requesting Graduate faculty status for non-UAF contingent faculty requires the department to fill out  form 1405.19 and submit it for approval with a vita or resume. Approvals include Department Chair/Head, Graduate Faculty Representative, Academic Dean, and the Provost's office. Following approval by the Provost's office, the form will be forwarded to the Graduate School for final approval by the Graduate Council and processing.

UAF Faculty or Staff Members

The process to request graduate faculty status for UAF faculty or staff requires the department to fill out form 1405.19 and submit it for approval with a vita or resume. Approvals include Department Head/Chair, Graduate Faculty Representative, and Academic Dean. Applications for faculty or staff members who do not have a terminal degree in their fields will also be approved by the Provost's office.  Following appropriate approvals, the form will be forwarded to the Graduate School for final approval by the Graduate Council and processing. UAF staff are allowed only the graduate-faculty level necessary to teach graduate-level classes; to serve on or direct committees, staff must be appointed as contingent faculty.

Should an increase in graduate faculty status be required, a new request must be submitted.
