Use of In-Line Skates, Roller Skates and Skateboards

The use of in-line skates, roller skates, skateboards, electronic skateboards including self-balancing boards/scooters, and other similar equipment on campus or other property owned or controlled by the university is permitted for individual transportation purposes only by students, university employees, or other individuals conducting official university business, utilizing university facilities available to the public or attending university programs. Any type of skating is strictly prohibited when a skater is moving and jumping and a skate or the wheels of the skateboard touch anything other than the ground, and this prohibition includes, but is not limited to, handrails, walls, benches, fountains, steps and raised surfaces. Any person engaging in any skating activity shall assume and shall be solely responsible for any property damage and/or any personal injury to himself or herself or to any third parties which arises out of any skating activity, including, but not limited to, any property damaged at the university. Moreover, any person choosing to engage in any skating activity of any kind or nature shall assume all risks associated with such activity. 

Notwithstanding any other provision of this policy, any type of skating is absolutely prohibited in the following areas:

  • all university buildings,
  • all multi-level/interior parking structures and outdoor parking lots,
  • all campus streets and service drives located on, running through, adjacent, or contiguous to, the campus, and
  • any additional areas restricted by signs.

Storage of any in-line skates, roller skates, skateboards, or related equipment is prohibited in aisles, hallways or other areas that will create hazardous conditions. 

Charging of electronic boards is also prohibited in all university facilities and any additional areas restricted by signs.

Any type of skating activity which violates this policy shall result in the following:

  • The University Arkansas Police Department (UAPD) or other authorized university employees will record the name of the individual and provide a written warning against further skating activity which violates this policy. 
  • If the offender is a student, then the student may be referred to the Division of Student Affairs—Office of Student Standards and Conduct.

Any person subject to any of the enforcement sanctions provided herein shall have the right to file an administrative appeal with the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Parking and Traffic Appeals Court at the Transit and Parking Department in accordance with the procedures set forth in the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Parking and Traffic Regulations.

All university police officers shall have authority to enforce this policy and all other applicable university rules, regulations and laws.
