Fayetteville Policies and Procedures 731.0
Vehicles on Campus Sidewalks and Hardscape
The general safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors as well as the overall appearance and first impression of campus grounds are very important to the University community and to its academic mission. For purposes of this policy, Hardscape shall mean any non-parking lot paved areas, driveways, walkways, and any other landscaping made up of hard wearing materials such as wood, stone, concrete, asphalt, pavers, light poles, etc. For purposes of this policy, Softscape refers to the live horticultural elements of the landscape including lawns, planting beds, mulched areas, etc. To that end, the following rules apply to any vehicle that has a legitimate business need to temporarily park on campus sidewalks and hardscape.
- Except as specifically required to install, repair, maintain, or replace Hardscape or Softscape, or as specifically authorized for legitimate University business pursuant to this policy, driving or parking on Softscape is prohibited at all times.
- Emergency vehicles, fire lanes, building exits, entry gates, stairs and crosswalks shall not be obstructed at any time.
- ADA access on sidewalks must be maintained at all times.
- Motorcycles and powered scooters are not eligible for a Sidewalk and Hardscape Parking Permit
- With the exception of vehicles displaying a Facilities Management vehicle decal ID, any University owned or leased vehicle on University sidewalks or hardscape not having an approved and current Sidewalk and Hardscape Parking Permit properly mounted to the windshield may be cited by Transit and Parking and may be towed at the violating department’s expense.
- Any non-University owned or leased vehicle on University sidewalks or hardscape not having an approved and current Sidewalk and Hardscape Parking Permit properly mounted to the windshield AND a valid University parking permit issued by Transit and Parking may be cited by Transit and Parking and may be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense.
- Sidewalk and Hardscape parking for the Gardens (450 S. Razorback Road) during home football game weekends will be authorized by the Athletics Department (479-575-3755).
Sidewalk and Hardscape Parking Permits are authorized on a case-by-case basis for legitimate University business and must be obtained through the Director, Facility Operations and Maintenance (or designee) at the Facilities Management Department located at 521 S. Razorback Road. If approved, a Sidewalk and Hardscape Parking Permit slip will be provided (at no cost) to be secured on the inside of the passenger-side windshield for the duration of the approved business need. The authorized vehicle shall only park on the sidewalk or hardscape for the minimum period of time required to complete the approved business and shall be relocated to a legal parking space as soon as possible. For assistance, call 479-575-2795.
This policy does not apply to areas inside a temporary physical fence installed to support a construction site.
